2. Submission Policy & Academic Ethics (Aligned with COPE)
2.1 Originality & Multiple Submission
All submissions must be original unpublished work. Simultaneous submission to other journals is strictly prohibited. Self-plagiarism, redundant publication, text/image/data reuse without proper citation counts as academic misconduct. Authors are required to declare preprint releases; preprint manuscripts without formal peer review are acceptable for submission.
2.2 Authorship Criteria & CRediT Taxonomy
Only contributors who meet full authorship criteria can be listed as authors: conceptualization, data collection, formal analysis, manuscript drafting, critical revision and final approval of the published version. AI large language models shall NOT be listed as authors. A standardized CRediT author contribution statement is mandatory at the end of all manuscripts. Equal contributors shall be marked with † with a corresponding footnote explanation. Corresponding authors bear full responsibility for manuscript submission, revision, communication and copyright confirmation.
2.3 Conflict of Interest Disclosure
All authors must complete a Conflict of Interest statement upon submission, disclosing research funding, institutional affiliations, consulting contracts, stock holdings or any financial/non-financial relationships that may bias research conclusions. Undisclosed conflicts will lead to rejection or post-publication correction/retraction.
2.4 Data, Replication & Research Transparency
Empirical papers must provide complete data sources, variable definitions, regression codes, survey instruments or raw statistical materials as supplementary files. Authors are encouraged to deposit datasets in open repositories (OSF, Figshare, national data archives). The journal supports replication checks by reviewers and editors. Fabrication, falsification or selective reporting of empirical results will trigger misconduct investigation.
2.5 Ethics for Survey & Human Subject Research
Manuscripts based on questionnaire surveys, interview data or cross-border human participant research shall attach institutional ethics approval documents and informed consent statements where applicable. All personal identifying information must be fully anonymized in text, tables and figures.
3. Manuscript Preparation Guidelines (MDPI Standard Layout)
3.1 Template & File Format
Authors must use the official JIEGG Word template or LaTeX template downloadable from the journal website. Accepted submission formats: .docx / .tex + PDF compiled output. Total attachment size shall not exceed 120 MB. All equations must be editable (not image screenshots).
3.2 Article Title
Concise, descriptive, maximum 18 words; avoid excessive abbreviations, jargon and periods. Use colons/en dashes for subtitle separation.
3.3 Structured Abstract (200–250 words, single paragraph, no subheadings)
Follow four implicit sections:
- Background: Research context and research gap
- Methods: Theoretical framework, data, identification strategy, empirical design
- Results: Core quantitative/qualitative findings
- Conclusions: Policy implications, limitations and future research directions No citations, abbreviations or undefined jargon in abstract.
3.4 Keywords
5–8 keywords separated by semicolons, covering core theories, research objects, methodologies and governance scenarios.
3.5 Standard Manuscript Structure
- Introduction
- Theoretical Framework / Literature Review
- Research Design & Methodology
- Empirical Results / Case Analysis
- Discussion
- Conclusion & Policy Implications
- Acknowledgments
- Author Contributions (CRediT)
- Funding Statement
- Conflicts of Interest Statement

- Supplementary Materials (if applicable)
3.6 Tables & Figures
All tables and figures must be self-explanatory with complete captions. All external reproduced materials require copyright permission statements in captions. Images shall be submitted in high-resolution TIFF/SVG. Number sequentially as Table 1, Figure 1 throughout text.
3.7 Citations & Reference Style (APA 7th Edition, consistent with MDPI social science journals)
In-text citations use author–date format: (Smith, 2023; Lee & Wang, 2024). Reference list ordered alphabetically by first author surname; full DOIs mandatory for journal articles. All cited sources must appear in reference list, and all references must be cited within the main text. Use Zotero/Mendeley for standardized formatting.
3.8 Supplementary Materials
Raw data, regression output, questionnaire texts, robustness test tables, extended proofs shall be uploaded as separate supplementary files during submission. Supplementary files are peer-reviewed together with the main manuscript.
4. Submission Process
- Register an author account via the official online submission system of Macau Science Press; institutional email is recommended.
- Complete all metadata: manuscript title, abstract, keywords, author information, affiliations, funding, conflict of interest.
- Upload main manuscript, high-resolution figures, supplementary files, ethics documents, funding certificates.
- Suggest 3–5 potential independent peer reviewers: reviewers cannot be recent collaborators (within past 3 years) or from the same institution as any co-author. Authors may also exclude specific reviewers with justified reasons.
- Submit plagiarism screening report from recognized academic detection platforms.
- Confirm submission and receive unique manuscript ID within 24 working hours.
5. Peer Review Workflow (Double-Blind Peer Review)
The journal implements strict double-blind review: author identities hidden to reviewers, reviewer identities hidden to authors.
- Editorial Pre-screening: Editorial office conducts format check, scope matching and originality screening; out-of-scope or unqualified manuscripts are desk-rejected within 3–5 working days.
- Peer Review Assignment: At least two independent external reviewers for each valid manuscript; divergent reviewer opinions trigger a third review or editorial board evaluation.
- Review Decisions: Four standard outcomes
- Accept without revision
- Major Revision (resubmission required for full re-review)
- Minor Revision (editorial final check without full re-review)
- Reject
- Revision Submission: Authors must submit point-by-point response letter addressing every reviewer comment within the assigned deadline (14 days for minor revision, 30 days for major revision). Late submissions without prior extension application will be treated as automatic withdrawal.
- Final Editorial Acceptance: Executive Editor-in-Chief conducts full final check before formal acceptance notification.
6. Copyright, Open Access & Article Processing Charges (APC)
6.1 Open Access Model
JIEGG is a fully open-access journal. Upon publication, all articles are freely accessible worldwide via the journal official platform and cooperating academic databases without access barriers. All metadata are submitted to CrossRef for permanent DOI resolution and global indexing.
6.2 Copyright Agreement
After acceptance, authors sign the Macau Science Press Open Access Publication License. Authors retain full copyright of their research work; the publisher obtains perpetual, non-exclusive rights to publish, archive, index, disseminate and format the article online and offline.
6.3 Article Processing Charge (APC)
APC covers peer review administration, language polishing, typesetting, online publication, long-term digital archiving, database indexing and global dissemination services. APC amount is published on the journal official website. Funding bodies, university research grants may cover APC; authors shall clearly mark APC funding source in the funding statement section. Waiver applications for APC are available for authors from low-income economies with no research funding, reviewed confidentially by the editorial committee. JIEGG is full open-access journal under CC BY-NC 4.0 license. All papers free global access after online publication, metadata submitted to CrossRef with permanent DOI. Copyright rule: Authors retain full copyright; MOSP holds perpetual non-exclusive publishing, archiving, indexing and dissemination rights. Article Processing Charge (APC): RMB 4,500 CNY / USD 640 per accepted article.

Retracted articles remain archived with prominent watermark and linked retraction statement; all historical versions are traceable.
- Long-term preservation: All published manuscripts permanently retained; rejected manuscripts archived for minimum 5 years for academic dispute review; temporary workflow documents retained 3 years before secure data clearing.
8. Corrections, Expressions of Concern & Retractions
- Minor typographical errors after publication are processed via Correction published alongside the original article with clear cross-linking.
- When credible evidence emerges questioning data reliability or academic integrity, the Editorial Board issues an Expression of Concern while launching formal investigation.
- Confirmed serious academic misconduct (data fabrication, plagiarism, duplicate publication, undisclosed conflict of interest, falsified ethics documents) results in formal Retraction. The journal strictly follows COPE retraction guidelines; all retraction records are permanently indexed and publicly visible.
9. Author Appeals Policy
If authors disagree with desk rejection or peer review decisions, a formal written appeal with sufficient supporting evidence may be submitted to the editorial office within 7 working days of decision notification. The Editorial Committee will organize an independent re-evaluation panel and issue a final reply within 10 working days. The committee’s second assessment outcome is definitive; repeated unfounded appeals will not be processed.
